515 entries received from 34 nations

Princess Sofia Trophy - 515 entries received from 34 nations
PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(24-2-2005) A total of 515 boats representing 34 nations have entered up to now for the 36 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - Madrid 2012, a successful number of entries considering this is a transition year after the Olympics.

Furthermore, the Real Federación Española de Vela has chosen the regatta as one of the selection events for the Spanish pre-Olympic sailing team towards Beijing 2008.

Many sailors are already training in the Bay of Palma, being aware that it is one of the most important regattas of the dinghy sailing calendar, both at national and international level. One can feel already the regatta atmosphere specially at Club Nàutic s'Arenal and Real Club Náutico de Palma, venue of the 49er and Dragon classes respectively, among other classes.

On the other hand, the Organising Committee has cancelled the participation of classes Star and Neil Pryde RS:X M & W, in accordance with point 5.2. of the Notice of Race, which establishes a minimum of 10 boats entered in the keelboats and 20 in the remaining classes. The proximity of the Star Class World Championship and the lack of Neil Pryde RS:X equipment available are the reasons of the low entry in these Olympic disciplines.

As far as the other classes are concerned, up to now the Laser is the class with the highest number of entries (69) followed by the Europe men (52). 48 entries have been received in classes 49er, Dragon and 470 M.

The different classes participating in the 36 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia - Madrid 2012 will sail in six racing areas distributed in the Bay of Palma as follows: Alfa for the 49er class, Bravo for the Finn and 470 M & W, Charlie for Tornado, Delta for Europe M & W and Mistral M & W, Echo for Dragon & Yngling, and Foxtrot for Laser and Laser Radial.

The 36th edition of the Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia for dinghy sailing will be held from 19 to 25 March 2005. The IMS cruiser event, second event of the Spanish Championship, will be held from 29 April to 1 May. The 36 Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia-Madrid 2012 is organised by the Federación Balear de Vela and Real Federación Española de Vela together with Real Club Náutico de Palma (venue of the IMS cruisers and classes Yngling and Dragon), Club Náutico de s'Arenal (venue of classes 470, Finn, 49er and Tornado), Club Náutico San Antonio de la Playa (venue of classes Europe and Mistral) and Escuela de Vela Calanova (venue of classes Laser and Laser Radial).
